So, y’all know that I’m a big believer in making your own condiments. Dips, sauces, dressings…they’re all better (and cheaper) when you make them yourself than when you just pour them out of a bottle.
My CSA gives us a salsa “kit” with tomatillos, a jalapeno, and a little cilantro. Their recipe is similar, but they recommend boiling the tomatillos. I much prefer them fresh (as in this recipe). I added an onion, which negated the need for water. Great recipe.
Surprisingly tasty for virtually no effort. I will make this all the time now. I added a tiny splash of lime juice and some cumin. Left out the seranno entirely for the kids and it was still tasty, although the adult version was much better!

This recipe sounds a little over complicated to me. For Salsa Cruda I just chop into small dice: Roma tomatos (regular ones just aren’t right), yellow (red is for seafood) onions, jalapeno and chop finely some cilanto. Mix, add salt and lime juice. Ahh!

This fresh mango salsa is easy to make and takes about 15 minutes to chop everything up and put it together.  It is sweet from the mangos and pineapple while it has a little kick from the jalapeño and serrano chilies.  We love the flavors that the garlic and cilantro add to this salsa while the freshly squeezed lime juice balances out all the flavors.
A certain percentage of people actually taste cilantro differently than others (google this for more info) and my husband is one of them. He says it tastes like chewing aluminum foil…I substitute fresh basil chopped and added the same way. I think it’s actually better than cilantro; there’s not much that fresh basil doesn’t improve.
